Avoir Property Ltd is a family-led business headed by Richard Bushnell and his two sons, Oliver Bushnell and Thomas Bushnell. Together, we bring a combination of entrepreneurial experience, commercial insight, and hands-on business support to every venture we undertake.
Joint venture investment for start-ups and small businesses
Our primary focus is partnering with ambitious start-ups and small businesses through joint venture arrangements. By providing investment capital in exchange for an equity stake, we help businesses accelerate their growth while offering practical support, mentorship, office administration, financial management, and accountancy expertise. We understand the challenges that young and growing businesses face because we have successfully helped businesses navigate those journeys before.
Our track record
Over the years, we have worked alongside a number of exciting businesses. One notable partnership saw a start-up insurance brokerage grow from its early days into a thriving organisation employing over 40 staff before ultimately achieving a multi-million-pound sale to a national operator. We have also supported a financial services company through a successful growth and exit strategy, resulting in its sale to a local competitor.
Most recently, we have been working closely with an estate agency business, helping drive growth through strategic rebranding, the acquisition of a competitor, and expansion into the rentals and lettings sector. These initiatives have strengthened the business, increased sales activity, and created new opportunities for long-term success.
Property development and lettings in North Devon
Alongside our business investments, Avoir Property Ltd is actively involved in the property and construction sector. We specialise in acquiring older residential and commercial properties with development potential and transforming them into high-quality, energy-efficient homes. Depending on the project, these properties are either sold to local buyers or retained within our portfolio as quality rental homes, helping to improve local housing stock while delivering sustainable long-term value.

A love for life and business, I have basically been self employed for as long as I can remember. I trained as a commercial insurance broker, quickly going self-employed and then into establishing my own brokerage; that business developed and insured some very complex and interesting national businesses. I sold this a couple of years ago at the age of 50 to retire but just couldn’t let go. I’ve now immersed myself in my passion of property and find myself buying, selling, developing and retaining all types of property whilst growing an estate agency that either manages my rentals or sells finished projects. Outside of work I’m loving north devon obviously and can be found jet skiing, away in the camper van, watching live music and festivals, travelling, sailing, or just enjoying my dogs, my family (most importantly of course) and exploring any new opportunities anyone offers me.

I studied Law at Swansea, graduating with a BA (Hons) before returning for a Masters. I have recently joined a prominent local firm of solicitors, where I am completing my final qualifications to become a solicitor. Outside work, my great passion is the gym and competitive bodybuilding, where disciplined training has brought strong results. Like many in North Devon I love the beach and the water, and I played water polo to a good standard. I have a real enthusiasm for property and business, and have personally led renovation projects from the practical end, including machinery operation, through to office-based IOSH qualifications.

I studied Economics at Bristol, graduating with a BSc (Hons), and have returned to the university to complete a Masters in the same subject. Alongside my studies I work hands-on in the family businesses, which gives me a practical grounding to match the academic one. I have been fortunate to travel widely, including Thailand, and I hold my Day Skipper sailing qualification. What interests me most is how different market sectors operate, where the opportunities for profit lie, and the pitfalls that can lead to loss.
